Editing the Wiki

One of the big advantages of a wiki is that the users become the authors. Editing the wiki keeps the information up to date and relevant. As a learning tool, it also keeps the content interesting and personal. By collaborating with your peers, the material becomes part of yourself, and you find your own way to learn.

To get the most out of a wiki, you must be an active participant. So jump in and add something of yourself. Put some of yourself into it, and learn from others as you help yourself learn!

How to Edit the Wiki

Editing the wiki is as simple as editing a document with Microsoft Word. If you've got skills in html editing, you can do even more!

The first step is to open the page that you want to edit, or create a new one. To edit an existing page, click the "Edit" tab along the top edge of the page. This will change the page to edit mode, and bring up an edit menu at the top of the page. Use this menu as you would the edit tools in Word. There are tools to change text appearance, make bulleted lists, add links, etc.

In many cases you may want to create a link to another page in the wiki. You can do this easily. Along the right-hand edge of the edit window is a list of current wiki pages. You can link to any of these pages by:

  1. Selecting the text in the edit window that you want to make into a link
  2. Click the page name in the list on the right-hand edge of the page.

It's that simple! Your text is now a link.

You can also create a link manually by selecting the text or image that you want to make into a link and clicking on the "Insert/Edit Link" button in the edit menu. This will bring up a box with a dropdown menu that you can use to choose the type of link that you want to make. You can link to a wiki page, a file that you have uploaded to the wiki, or a major topic folder. You can also link to an external web site (URL), or even create an email link!
